Why is drawing up a will important?
A Will safeguards those left behind. Without clear instruction on how you wish your estate to be divided, your spouse, partner or children can face both financial and sentimental challenges. Possessions intended for a spouse, partner or child can be challenged – and the fair distribution of financial assets compromised.
Having an indisputable Will gives you the certainty that your wishes will be legally carried out. The passing of a treasured person in your life can be traumatic. Any confusion over what to do next is most unwelcome. Anyone with a legally binding Will does not have to endure this uncertainty.
Moreover, having a Will can help reduce the amount of inheritance tax that may be payable of any assets and is especially important if you have children or other dependents that need supporting financially – or if you want to leave something to people or organisations outside your immediate family.
A Standard Will costs £200 plus VAT. For anything more bespoke there will an hourly rate of £250 per hour plus VAT at 20% where the matter requires the level of a partner. Aspects of the work, including less complex tasks may be delegated to more junior staff, under the direct supervision of senior staff and for this the hourly rate is £150 per hour plus VAT at 20%.
A standard will may take around two to three weeks to complete from when full instructions have been provided.
